Driver Michael Annett will celebrate his 22nd birthday two days early when he joins Bill Davis Racing's No. 22 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team in June at The Milwaukee Mile. Annett is part of Bill Davis Racing’s driver developmental program, and he will shift his focus from the ARCA RE/MAX Series ranks to one of NASCAR’s premiere divisions. Annett will share the seat of the No. 22 Bill Davis Racing Toyota Tundra with Red Bull Racing's Scott Speed for the remainder of the 2008 season.
“I am thrilled about this opportunity,” Annett said. “The guys at Bill Davis Racing are the best, and I can’t wait to test my skills against NASCAR’s elite drivers. We have run very well in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, and I think we can be just as successful in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. I am excited and ready for this next step in my career.”
Annett captured the first ARCA RE/MAX Series victory for Toyota last fall at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. It was Toyota’s first win in the 55-year ARCA RE/MAX Series history. Annett also won with Bill Davis Racing again at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway earlier this year. In his nine career ARCA RE/MAX Series starts, Annett has accumulated two wins, five top-five finishes and eight top-10 finishes along with one pole. Bill Davis is pleased with the rookie’s progress in the ARCA RE/MAX Series and has decided to push his program a little faster than planned.
“Michael has proven his worth,” said Team Owner Bill Davis. “He is an incredible talent and a great individual who brings so much to the table. He has dominated so much in the ARCA RE/MAX Series that we feel as if he is more than ready for the next level. We have a great program in place with Mike [Skinner], Johnny [Benson] and Scott [Speed] in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, so we figured we would see what Annett could do at the next step in his young racing career.”
The 21 year old Iowa native has shown the racing world he has what it takes to get to victory lane. He is now ready for his next challenge: to compete on a weekly basis with NASCAR’s best.
